With more and more interest in teacher education standards across massage and bodywork programs, we asked Stan Dawson
, President of the Alliance for Massage Therapy Education (AFMTE), to share the core competencies that massage therapy teachers should possess
. The competencies are outlined in the Core Competencies document that the AFMTE developed and published back in 2013 as part of the National Teacher Education Standards Project. He also describes the recently published Assessment Guide
which allows teachers to evaluate their own levels of mastery within the core competencies, and discusses the ongoing AFMTE developments for a new teacher certification process
and a model teacher training curriculum.
